Specialist Leader of Education: 

Sarah has worked at Poplar Primary School for 19 years as both a class teacher and Deputy Head. When she started at Poplar, it was a First School and she was employed for her experience as a primary deputy to support the expansion of the school to an all through primary school. Poplar now is a three form entry school with approximately 100 staff.

Her responsibilities at present include: staff development, student mentoring, NQT mentoring, Schools Direct and SCITT mentor. Over the past few years she has been a GTP mentor and a mentor for teachers on various Middle Leadership courses. Through the local authority, she has supported local schools with a range of projects and supported deputy heads new to their role. During her time at Poplar she has had various coordinator and lead roles and has been a class teacher across the whole primary age range.
She has trained as a facilitator for the Oleivi ITP - Improving Teacher Programme and OTAP, Outstanding TA Programme. She has delivered these programmes with another colleague for the past 8/2 years. She is also a trained Quality Assurance Consultant for the Improving Teacher Programme and the Outstanding Teacher Programme.
During her time at Poplar, she has delivered whole school INSET on many aspects of teaching and learning, curriculum development and school development, including developing leadership skills.
She has led the school through various initiatives such as Healthy Schools Award, School Travel Plan, Rights Respecting Schools and Fair Trade award.
She developed and wrote the materials for the Learning Mentor Programme which she has delivered to TAs and LSAs over the past five years. She has devised and delivered the NQT+ programme with 2 other colleagues. This is currently being offered to teachers in Merton and neighbouring boroughs.
